Sommelier Glenn Bardgett is all about turkey-friendly wines this month. Check your favorite wine shop or liquor store for availability.
Jacuzzi Family Vineyards Pinot Grigio 2007,
Carneros, Calif.
This popular Italian grape has certainly caught the attention of West Coast growers. This wine offers a light bronze color due to a slight amount of skin contact during fermentation. With a bit more weight than other PGs, it is a better complement to the turkey’s white meat. At around $16, it’s also a super value.
Costa de Oro Pinot Noir 2008, Santa Barbara
County, Calif.
I taste hundreds of wines every month, but few of them impress me so much that I immediately know they are a “can’t-miss” wine. When I tried this, my first thought was that it would be impossible to not like: loads of berries with just a touch of spice, soft and fragrant. Your stuffing and cranberry sauce will never taste better than with a glass of this Pinot. Around $25.
Clear Creek Cherry Liqueur, Portland, Ore.
I don’t think that I have ever tasted a cherry pie in a glass before. Clear Creek has built a great reputation on its fruit brandies, and this liqueur infuses Kirschwasser (clear cherry brandy) with dark cherries, resulting in a beautiful rich sweetness. You will love finishing your turkey dinner with this. A 375-ml bottle sells for about $22.
