Cobalt Smoke & Sea will open in Creve Coeur

Woodsmoke BBQ in Ellisville will close its doors at the end of the year so owner Bernadette Faasen can open a new concept in Creve Coeur. Faasen said Cobalt Smoke & Sea is slated to open at 12643 Olive Blvd., in February 2019.

Cobalt will retain Woodsmoke’s smoked meats but add “a global, international flair to them,” Faasen said. Fresh seafood flown in from the coasts, and Hawaii will also be front and center on the new menu.

“We ‘d just reached a limit in our current space,” Faasen said. “We’ve been there for six years, and we wanted to launch into something with a more diverse menu. There are so many barbecue restaurants out here, and we feel like we wanted to take it up a notch and move into something a little more specialized.”

Faasen said the Creve Coeur area was attractive due to the large customer base, including numerous nearby office complexes and the new Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital currently under construction across the street, scheduled to open in early 2019.

Faasen said the Cobalt space, which formerly housed The Gas House Grill, is currently undergoing a gut rehab. Once completed, Cobalt will have a full bar, seating for 125 inside and additional outdoor seating. Faasen said live music will also be featured.
