First Look: Morning Glory Diner on Cherokee Street

Cherokee Street will add a good old-fashioned diner to its diverse array of eating and drinking establishments when Morning Glory Diner opens its doors tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 14, at 2609 Cherokee St.

As Sauce reported in November 2018, Ari Jo Ellis (a 2016 Sauce One to Watch) announced she would close The Cut inside The Fortune Teller Bar to open her diner just a few blocks down the street in the former Vista space.

Morning Glory is a straight-ahead, no-frills operation specializing in comforting a.m. dishes like slingers, biscuits and gravy and chicken and johnnycakes. Lunch service begins at 11 a.m. and adds burgers, sandwiches and chili to the menu. Ellis said there will be a monthly menu special (French toast bread pudding, to start) plus a rotating selection of muffins and pies.

The 30-seat space is minimalist in decor. The open kitchen is the main focus, and the jukebox in the corner is full of a wide swath of musical selections from classic rock to local bands.

Morning Glory will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Here’s a peek at what diner fans can expect.
