The Doghaus Soulard is now open featuring food from Good Bowl by Plantain Girl

The Doghaus Soulard, at 1800 South 10th St. in the former location of Tropical Liqueurs, opened for business today, Tuesday, March 5, providing a welcoming space for dogs and their people to spend quality time together.

“We’re all animal lovers, and we think it’s great for the neighborhood,” said co-owner Stephen Walters. “It helps the dogs socialize and helps the humans meet each other.” He added that The Doghaus will also hold pet adoption events in the future.

Along with a full bar, The Doghaus features food from Good Bowl by Plantain Girl, aka Mandy Estrella, who preps the food for the eatery offsite at her commissary kitchen. The Caribbean-inspired menu is available for lunch and dinner and includes entrees like The Bounty Hunter, with roasted pork, rice, pineapple salsa, guava barbecue sauce, crispy wonton and green onion, and Mister 305, ropa vieja (braised flank steak) with black beans, rice, avocado, pickled red onion and cilantro. Estrella said there will also be daily specials available. The eatery is counter-service only, perfect for those pressed for time.

As evidenced by the name, Doghaus is more than a little bit canine-friendly. A membership is available for $40 per calendar year that allows pooches (with up-to-date vet and shot records) access to the 90-by-30-foot off-leash area. Interested dogs and owners can check out the scene for a small fee and a waiver. On-leash dogs are also welcome on the patio and on the second floor, no membership required.

To start, hours for The Doghaus are 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday. The dog park is open until 9 p.m.
