Clayton holds Brews, Blues + BBQ Festival for new breweries

Sample craft beers from new local breweries at the Clayton’s Brews, Blues + BBQ Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, in downtown Clayton.

Featuring the region’s newest in the craft beer scene, the event will host 10 breweries such as Peel Brewing Co., Brew Hub Taproom, Beer Outside, Melvin Brewing sampling their signature brews.

“Obviously there are a lot of breweries within the city, but this festival is unique as it focuses solely on the younger and newer microbreweries that are making an appearance here in the region, so we try to stay away from the more popular and more well-known microbreweries,” said Kristin Bryant, city of Clayton marketing and events specialist. “We really want to try and get the little guys a chance to make their way into the market. We don’t really have much of that here in Clayton in general, so it’s definitely a unique opportunity for this area to experience that.”

Nosh on food for purchase from local barbecue joints such as Adam’s Smokehouse and The Wood Shack Soulard, along with grilled seafood from Oceano Bistro.

“With the purchase of a ticket, eventgoers will receive a goodie bag with a wristband, sample cups branded with the festival logo and a few other goodies here and there we are going to be inserting,” Bryant said. “With the sample glass, they will be able to visit all the breweries and have unlimited samples of beer.”

And to keep people entertained while enjoying their brews and barbecue, the rhythm of the blues will emanate from Blues City Swing.

“St. Louis is obviously known for blues music, that’s just where it was born, so it’s adding that fun St. Louis vibe to the atmosphere where people can just sit back and enjoy their beer and barbecue while listening to what St. Louis is known for,” Bryant said.

Designated drivers are invited to attend for free via online registration.
