The Scoop: Picky burger-lovers can build their own at Dave & Tony’s

060711_burgerAre you picky when it comes to your burger? Then you may want to head over to Dave & Tony’s Premium Burger Joint. The new restaurant opened this week, as Riverfront Times’ Ian Froeb reported, at 12766 Olive Blvd., in Creve Coeur in the space formerly occupied by Sammy Scott’s Sandwiches & More.

As first reported by Joe Bonwich of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the indie burger joint is based on the “build-your-own” concept whereby customers can select among four bun options including pretzel, pumpernickel and rye; six proteins including non-beef options like chicken as well turkey and veggie burgers; nine types of cheese; 17 different toppings that range from caramelized onions to grilled pineapple to a hard-boiled egg; and a plethora of sauces including apple jam, chipotle ketchup and roasted garlic aïoli.

Dave & Tony’s also offers a variety of signature sandwiches, salads, hot dogs and similar kid-friendly fare. The two most popular choices during lunch so far, according to supervisor Nick Wurmser, have been the St. Louis Burger – a premium steak burger topped with Provel cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, relish and Thousand Island dressing – and the Steakhouse Burger, which features the steak burger with Gorgonzola, lettuce, onion rings, steak butter and steak sauce on a rye bun.

The restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
