The Scoop: Colorado transplant DeLeo’s Cafe & Deli opens in Florissant

March 2nd 11:03am, 2012

DeLeo’s Cafe & Deli recently opened at 2782 N. Highway 67 in Surrey Plaza 2, in the space formerly occupied by Fortel’s Pizza Den. The eatery serves hot and cold sandwiches (including a selection of vegetarian options) on bread from Vitale’s Bakery on The Hill. DeLeo’s also offers house-made soups, salads and desserts. Among beverages is a standard lineup of espresso-based drinks, with alcoholic beverages coming soon, pending the approval of a liquor license.

DeLeo’s co-owner Jake Hall told The Scoop that his eatery has roots in Estes Park, Colorado. During vacations to the popular Rocky Mountain vacation spot, Hall and his family would eat at DeLeo’s Park Theatre Cafe and Deli. “We ate there every day and loved it. It’s awesome food,” said Hall, noting that the Colorado deli-cafe was even featured on The Food Network. “Over last two years we talked and ended up buying [the owner’s] recipes. We brought them to St. Louis and expanded them.” Hall added that he and his business partner Mark Wunderlich have tried to create a “really homey feeling” in the 4,000-square-foot space, with comfy couches scattered throughout and local art hanging on the walls.

DeLeo’s Cafe & Deli is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., closing an hour earlier on Sundays. The DeLeo’s website is currently being updated to reflect its new St. Louis location. In the meantime, details about the eatery can be found on the DeLeo’s Facebook page.
