Thursday Giveaway: The clock is ticking!

Love free stuff? Already stressing about holiday shopping? We have good news! Running through December, we will be doing giveaways every Thursday. Today we are giving away a Ronco 5-tray Food Dehydrator. All you have to do is tell us about the first ingredient you would dehydrate and how you would use it in a dish. Write your comment in the section below, on our Facebook wall or on our Twitter feed. Then, we’ll pick our favorite. Entries start NOW and last until 4 p.m. We’ll announce the winner later this afternoon.

    I love to cook and bake and last month’s Vegetarian Times cooking magazine had a whole section on dehydrating fruits and veggies for chips! That would be the first thing to try with a new dehydrator. I would make their cinnamon apple and banana crisps, rosemary sweet potato chips, kale chips, zucchini and tempura chips. I have really been focused on eating healthy this year and making it a lifestyle change, and having a dehydrator so I can make my own snacks would help me out tremendously and be so much fun! I like to experiment in the kitchen so I would enjoy coming up with new flavor combinations and snack ideas.

    FIrst I would go to the store and buy a piece of meat that is marked 25% off because it is about to expire and might kill me. Aging beef is key–ask any steakhouse. I would take it home, remove my clothes, and slice the meat up real thin. Half of the thinly sliced meat I would eat raw. My wife is a vegetarian so we may have a discussion about this. The other half I would use this machine to suck all of the moisture out of. As this is happening, the dehydrating beef will let off a smell that will make my wife leave me. Once it is done, I will eat it and compare it to the raw beef and then write a review on Yelp.

    i’d dehydrate bananas to make some peanut-butter-banana-chip sandwiches! yum, and portable!

    WOW! What an awesome response! We wish we had 76 food dehydrators to give away, but since we don’t, Mark Beïrn, you are our winner. If you really do invent condiment leather, be sure to let us know!

    Being a vegetarian I have always wanted to get a dehydrator. All the rage is kale chips and I would love to make some up in on of these instead of the oven. Also, I have a ton of fruit I need to something with :)
