The Scoop: Food at Ballpark Village looks to be more than peanuts and Cracker Jacks

For some St. Louisans, the notion of a mixed-use development called Ballpark Village is now about as old as their college-bound kids. But with a groundbreaking ceremony held earlier this month on the 10-acre site of the old Busch Stadium downtown, the concept is a step closer to becoming a reality. And, as the dirt is removed to pave way for what is heralded as a premier entertainment destination for the region, food fans want to know what Ballpark Village will have in store for them when the first phase of the project is completed, scheduled to occur in time for the Cardinals’ home opener in 2014.

One venue at Ballpark Village will be the Budweiser Brew House. Look for German-inspired cuisine and more than 100 beers on tap at the two-story, 20,000-square-foot building that will display A-B’s history in St. Louis as well as the global reach of its brands. Budweiser Brew House will also have an outdoor beer garden and a rooftop deck with views into Busch Stadium.

Another venue within Ballpark Village will be Cardinals Nation, which will house a restaurant as well as the Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum. The two-story sports restaurant will have two bars and three patios, and large flat-screen TVs throughout. There will also be a rooftop deck with ticketed seats looking into Busch Stadium.

PBR St. Louis: A Cowboy Bar is the most recently announced addition to Ballpark Village. PBR is a country bar concept by bull-riding organization Professional Bull Riders, Inc. The first PBR opened in 2008 in Kansas City, Mo.; St. Louis will mark its eighth location. PBR St. Louis will feature a southwestern-inspired food menu along with an expansive beer and bourbon list. Highlights of the 8,000-square-foot space include a large dance floor, a soft-seating lounge area, private outdoor balconies, multiple bars and a mechanical bull.

An entertainment venue called Live at Ballpark Village Marketplace is also part of this $100-million first phase of the project.
