The Scoop: Just Chicken to roll out food truck in June

Wednesday, April 8th, 2015

Just Chicken is spreading its wings in June with the addition of a bright yellow food truck.

The restaurant, located at 5942 Delmar Blvd., in St. Louis, offers up a menu of all things chicken: wings, sandwiches, burgers and more. However, owner Antwann Binion said the truck’s menu will focus on solely on wings, all fried to order on board and tossed in one of six sauces like teriyaki or the sweet-spicy house sauce. Additionally, there will be house-cut french fries and sweet potato fries.

Binion said adding a food truck has been on his mind since he first opened Just Chicken in May 2014. “I first thought of the idea when I was visiting my son in L.A.,” he said. “I saw so many food trucks lined up. I thought it would be feasible to make Just Chicken mobile and expand the business in that way.”

He believes the brick-and-mortar location will benefit from the increased publicity that the truck will provide. “I want to reach more people, especially those that don’t visit the store,” he said.

Binion said the truck will operate in both St. Louis City and County, with frequent stops at corporate campuses like Numotion, Wells Fargo, The People’s Clinic and Ameren. He also hopes to establish stops near Forest Park, Washington University and Charter.

Wednesday, January 28th, 2015

Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest unofficial American holiday of the year, and as with all our holidays, it comes with it’s own traditional menu of delicious eats. Step up your game day grub with five recipes for our favorite football food:

1. Get smoky with a big pot of Smoked White Bean Chili. (And before you cry foul, we’ve got the traditional red chili fans covered, too.)

2. Pulled Pork and pigskin are a classic combination, and ours simmers all day in a root beer-chile sauce.

3. Fire up the grill and savor the sweet heat of Harissa Honey Hot Wings.

4. No harissa? No problem. These Honey Sriracha Wings require just five key ingredients, including that bottle of rooster sauce in your fridge.

5. Fear not, vegan and vegetarians – even meat-heads will drool over these Macho Cauliflower Poppers. Sharing is optional.

The Scoop: Former cafe space in The Loop may be home to wings, burger and custard shop

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

It appears that the space at 6227 Delmar Blvd., next door to Delmar Restaurant & Lounge in The Loop, is getting a new tenant. The space, which most recently housed the shuttered Layal Café and Hookah Bar, now has lettering on the awning above the entrance that reads: “Burgers, wings, frozen custard.” The interior is undergoing construction, and it appears that a wall will divide the former cafe space into two separate storefronts, with the new restaurant tenant taking the spot to the west. More as we learn it.
