Timeless Trumps Trends

Trends are hard to navigate; the avocado green and harvest gold of one generation all to quickly gives way to another’s earth tones and stainless steel. How to stay current but not date yourself in a few short years? The answer is to tastefully fill your abode with styles you love. We’re loving these classic metal bar stools by Emeco. Top them with a pillow or nothing at all – either way, timeless décor will pull up a stool to stay a while.

Send Diana to Haiti

The earthquake in Haiti was one of those overwhelming disasters that make us dizzy with desire to help. Diana Gray knows one way she can help ... and you can her help others. Gray works part time at Grapevine Wines, the great little wine shop in Kirkwood owned by her husband and brother-in-law. She’s also a physical therapist. Which is why she’s off to Haiti this weekend to help out at Hôpital Sacré Coeur, the largest private hospital in the country. It also has strong St. Louis connections – St. Louis surgeon Dr. Theodore Dubuque has been involved there since the 1980s, and seven of the 23 board members are from St. Louis, including Charles Dubuque of Ronnoco Coffee and Tom Schlafly of Schlafly Beer. Over 500 patients, many in need of physical therapy, now jam the 73-bed hospital. Tomorrow night you can help raise funds for Gray’s trip by attending a wine tasting. Because a large crowd is expected, donations to defray the costs are also accepted any time. Seems like perfect time to stock up and make a donation.

Sauce pick: Help Send Diane to Haiti
Where to get it: Wed., Feb. 10 – 6 p.m., Grapevine Wines, 309 S. Kirkwood Road, Kirkwood
Price: $10 donation plus 10 percent of sales will be donated to the cause

Helpful Measures

St. Louis has talent, that’s for sure. And said talent has lots of heart.

That’s why local musicians – including Brian Owens, Christine Brewer, Bottoms Up Blues Gang, Mardra and Reggie Thomas, Kim Massie, Mayor Taylor, Peter Martin and Peter Henderson – can be found onstage at The Sheldon tonight, doing their part for earthquake relief.

Although the concert is sold out, you can still catch is live on HEC-TV (Channel 26/AT&T U-Verse Channel 99) or online at hectv.org. The event supports Doctors Without Borders, who are being challenged daily to provide much-needed medical care to our Haitian neighbors. Julius Hunter will host the evening.

What: St. Louis Musicians for Haiti
When: Tue., Feb. 9 – 7:30 p.m.
Where: HEC-TV (Channel 26/AT&T U-Verse Channel 99) or online at hectv.org
