dinner w/ a friend from chicago on saturday evening.House salad-good, beet salad-appeared to be pre-prepared as the mascarpone cheese completely soaked up color and flavor of stacked beets, short ribs-too much sauce killed flavor especially of horseradish potatoes but excellent meat, salmon-under seasoned fish over kill on salt/pepper on zucchini cakes a 5 year old could have known it was unacceptable seasoning, chocolate fritters-dish lacked appeal needed extra finish i.e.whip cream/pwdr sugar

Went in for dinner with "the girls" on a Saturday evening. Apps - Fire Cracker Shrimp, Muscles, Escargot scruptious. Entrees - Shrimp & Grits, Yellowfin Tuna and Beef Wellington all Fabulous. Bread pudding and Apple Pie nice finish. Fun and relaxed atmosphere. Service was outstanding. Our waiter Stephan really made our evening.

the atmosphere is like the old balaban's without the consistent quality. the house salad was slight on the bacon. the second courses arrived during a first. we were comped for the unfinished salad, the better gesture than giving you something you haven't ordered. the mussels were excellent and the frites good. what's with dredging the potatoes in flour? the salmon was overcooked; the zucchini pancake under it gummy. one doesn't want to have to step carefully around a menu.

Loved, loved, loved this place and so happy that a cool restaurant is occupying this space again. We enjoyed everything! We definitely will go back many times.
