Coleridge-Taylor, whose mother was English and his father of African-American heritage, was one of the brightest rising starts of Europe when he died young. Louise Farrenc demanded to be paid as much as her male peers when her Nonet rocketed her to fame, but fell back into obscurity after her death. Her music is rightfully regaining the recognition it deserves.
