Fine Spanish Wine

(subject to change)

The wines on this page may not be as familiar as Chardonnay and Merlot, but to us, they represent the finest wines on Planet Earth for your hard earned dollar. Grapes such as Garnacha, Tempranillo, Albariño and Viura are becoming well known to discerning consumers.

This selection, covering the major wine styles of Spain, is full of complexity, warmth, and joy, just like the Spanish people. Sip a glass into the wee hours and please feel free to ask for recommendations. We love to pair these wines with our Spanish cuisine.

Cavas y Rosados: No Spanish celebration would be complete without these two styles of wine. Get in the spirit and try one with all manner of tapas.

Priorat y Monsant: Spain’s greatest reds may some day be made in these regions where the craggy soil of the mountains is home to steep terraced vineyards. Very old vine Garnacha and Carinena combine with newer plantings of Merlot, Cab, and Syrah to make riveting wines with huge fruit and subtle spice.

Fra Guerau 2003
gl 9 btl 36
Acústic 2006

Ribera del Duero: Very similar profile to Rioja with perhaps a bit more power and weight, the Ribera is nearly equal to Rioja today in terms of prestige and quality.

Abadia Retuerta Rivola 2004 gl 10 btl 40
Emilio Moro 2005 btl 75

Rioja: The most highly regarded region in Spain. Rioja, made principally from Tempranillo, is a very complex wine with the texture and complexity of Bordeaux but with a dustiness and earthy character all its own. Traditionally served with lamb, this style of wine pairs well with any red meat.

Loriñon Crainza 2003 gl 8 btl 32
Ramon Bilbao Limited Edition 2004 btl 40
Finca Allende 2004 gl 10 btl 40
Marques de Riscal Reserva 2003 btl 42

Other Denominacions: Spain’s greatest values are to be had in regions which until recently had been primarily producing bulk wines from old vines using ancient methods. The advent of modern vinification technology has allowed winemakers to take full advantage of these incredible raw materials and produce some interesting and exciting wines.

Featured Spanish Wine

Torres Viña Esmeralda 2007
The first time Chef Grace tasted this wine, she was sitting on the beach in Sitges, staring out at the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.
She knew it would be a perfect fit for our wine list. Made mostly of Moscatel with a little Gewurtztraminer, it’s the perfect accom-
paniment for our seafood dishes and great to drink in the Spring!
Glass: 8 Bottle: 32

Marques de Cáceres Satinela 2006
A new addition to our list, this white Rioja is perfect for the heat. Produced from Viura and Malavasía grapes, the Satinela is a
delicate white on the sweeter side despite the fact that it’s called “semi-dulce.” The aromas are delicate and floral with fruity
peach, pear and honeysuckle flavors. A versatile wine, the Satinela stands on its own, can be considered an aperitif, pairs nicely
with goat cheese and Cabrales, or is delicious with fruits and dessert.
Glass: 7 Bottle: 28

Artazuri Rosado 2007
We have been searching and have finally found a food-friendly rosé perfect for this time of year (not to mention that it is an
exceptional value!) The Artazuri Rosado is 100% Garnacha from the Navarra region in Northern Spain near the French border.
This delicate rosé is brisk and layered with hints of light strawberry, raspberry, smoke and mineral. It delivers a persistant finish
making it perfect to enjoy on its own or with a tapa or two!
Glass: 7 Bottle: 28

Acústic 2006
WIth a score of 90 in Wine Advocate, the Acústic 2006 is brand new to St. Louis. Comprised of 55% Samso (also known as
Cariñena in Spain and Carignan in the rest of the world) and 45% Garnacha, this dark ruby red wine is a delight! Slight aromas of
cedar, spices, minerals, and black cherry combined with the flavor of sweetened fruit, French oak and silky smooth tannins make
this newcomer a huge hit!
