Chef Jack “Jack Mac” MacMurray takes over Chandler Hill kitchen
Kitchen veteran Jack MacMurray III, aka Jack Mac, tied on the apron and took the reins at the restaurant at Chandler Hill Vineyard in Defiance Jan. 4, as reported by St. Louis Magazine.
Most recently of the now-shuttered Joe Buck’s in downtown St. Louis, MacMurray also has seen the inside of the kitchens at Kirkwood Station Brewery, Schneithorst’s, Annie Gunn’s and others. Chandler Hill Vineyard general manager Jeff Wuerstl said he was pleased to snag MacMurray after a two-month search. “He brings a lot of experience and culinary skill in his back pocket,” Wuerstl said. “He is a wealth of knowledge and has won many accolades.”
MacMurray said he was drawn to Chandler Hill for its regional vision for the future of the winery and dining program. “It’s probably the No. 1 winery around here,” he said. “That was exciting to be a part of something good."
MacMurray said he will make changes to the current menu gradually as he learns Chandler Hill clients’ preferences. He plans to offer a rotating specials board that will take advantage of the bountiful seasonal produce and meat offerings available from regional farms and Chandler Hill’s own 50-square-foot garden. Look for monthly wine dinners, an expanded beer selection and a wine and beer dinner in August. "The realm of possibilities of food is huge out here,” he said.
