The Shaved Ice Shack opens in former SnowCaps spot in Cottleville

The Shaved Ice Shack
at 3917 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville celebrated its grand opening last weekend, June 1, taking the place of the former SnowCaps Hawaiian Shaved Ice, which had been there the past 11 years.

“We just wanted to move on from SnowCaps,” said co-owner Cody Andel. “We wanted to take the extra step on the syrup, in particular, using proper simple syrups.”

Andel, who spent five years at Anheuser-Busch before shifting his focus to shaved ice, is proud of a business built on consistency and speed in a market filled with competitors.

“People in this area know shaved ice,” Andel said. “When we were trying to decide on a location, we liked that Bahama Buck’s was [nearby]. We wouldn’t be doing this if we didn’t think we could compete.”

The Shaved Ice Shack seats 60 on its new patio, which features giant Connect Four and Jenga games. Andel primarily focuses on marketing, while his sister and co-owner, Kassie Andel, handles daily operations.

After months of revisions and taste testing, Andel believes they have perfected his menu and plans on introducing “The Glacier,” a shaved ice and ice cream shake, in the coming days.

Summer hours are noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
