In the end, only one could prevail. Bartender Sammy Williams of Brennan’s won the top spot in the cocktail competition at the Central West End Cocktail Party yesterday, June 9, on Euclid Avenue between Maryland and McPherson avenues.

Williams beat out seven other CWE bartenders in a three-round competition that culminated in a “Chopped”-style challenge included pear and coconut water as secret ingredients. When the dust cleared, Williams and fellow finalist David “Phil” Villacis of Bar Italia were separated by just one point. Williams took top honors with his take on a daiquiri with blackberry syrup.

The other participants included The Preston’s Joey Konroy, Gamlin Whiskey House’s Todd Slinkard, Mission Taco Joint’s Tyler Baublitz, El Burro Loco’s Jim Walker, Mary Ann’s Tea Room’s Lucas Klein and Sub Zero Vodka Bar’s Nicolette Kelly. Judges included 4 Hands Brewing Co.’s Nick Kanter, KMOV’s Alexis Zotos, Central West End Association’s Kate Water and Jess Batchelor, We Eat Stuff’s Christine and Charlie Gunthrie and Sauce Magazine’s Matt Sorrell.
