El Burro Loco owners will open La Bamba in downtown St. Louis

The team behind El Burro Loco in the Central West End will soon open another Mexican eatery, this time in downtown St. Louis. La Bamba will be located at 1101 Lucas Ave., and is expected to open in late March or early April.

Cousins Jaime Hernandez and Fernando Mendieta are partners in the business and said they’ve been looking to open another eatery since El Burro Loco opened in 2015.

“The place is about 95-percent finished. We’re just waiting on the POS system,” Hernandez said.

He said the menu will still have some of the Tex-Mex favorites El Burro Loco fans have come to appreciate, like chimichangas, fajitas and nachos, but it will also have more traditional Mexican, including street tacos and al pastor prepared on a rotisserie.

Hernandez said the bar will boast 250 to 300 varieties of tequilas and mezcals along with “probably 100 margarita options.”

The restaurant will be open daily from 11 a.m to 1 a.m. to accommodate lunch, dinner and late-night crowds, Hernandez said, and it will seat upward of 200 inside with an additional 20 tables available on the patio.
