Top 10 most read news articles of 2019

From new spots like Sllyce Republic Pizza and The Cheshire Grin Cat Cafe to the closing of Cork and Barrel and Oaked in Soulard, these were the most read restaurant news stories this year. 

1. In May, seafood restaurant The Mad Crab announced it would open a second location at 12490 St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton.

2. Also in May, the ownership group behind Llywelyn’s Pub announced it would open Sllyce Republic Pizza at 2490 Taylor Road, the site of the former Llywelyn’s Wildwood location.

3. The Rack House Kitchen Wine Whiskey kicked off 2019 with its plans to open a second location inside the former Mother-in-Law House in St. Charles. 

4. Cork and Barrel in St. Peters closed doors after two-and-a-half years in business.

5. In July, co-owners Paul Scimone and Kateri Cotter announced plans to open Benton Park’s first cat cafe, The Cheshire Grin Cat Cafe

6. Bob Mannecke took his North St. Louis County food truck Mann Meats to a new brick-and-mortar home at 300 St. Ferdinand St. in Florissant.

7. In June, owner Michael Butler announced he would launch Open Concept, an open bar on Cherokee Street.

8.  Charred Crust announced it would open a pizzeria in June at 105 S. Meramec Ave., in Clayton, in the former home of Uptown Café.

9. In October, Soulard eatery Oaked closed doors for good after less than a year in business. 

10. Jack Nolen’s, a new spot for smash burgers and more, announced in October that it would open doors at 2501 S. Ninth St., in Soulard.
