Asador Del Sur will open in former home of Reeds American Table

The husband and wife team of Daniel Gonzalez and Maria Giamportone will soon bring a bit of South and Latin America to Maplewood. The duo plans to open Asador Del Sur at 7322 Manchester Road, the former home of Reeds American Table, sometime in late spring or early summer.

Asador Del Sur will focus on the food of South American cuisines, reflecting the couple’s heritages, prepared with an American twist, Giamportone said. Look for plenty of fresh seafood, a staple of Giamportone’s native Ecuadorian cuisine, and grilled meat, an important part of the food culture in Uruguay, where Gonzalez is from.

The couple currently lives in South Florida, but Giamportone has family in the St. Louis area and thought St. Louis would be a good fit for the concept. The couple plans to move to the area in mid-January.

“We are extremely excited,” Giamportone said. “Maplewood has been very welcoming. The community is like a dream come true.”

Giamportone said she hopes to open the restaurant by June.
