After being put on hold in 2020 due to the pandemic, Brew in the Lou is returning to Francis Park (corner of Donovan Avenue and Eichelberger Street) for its ninth annual fundraiser from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9.

The event features over 100 tasting stations from some of St. Louis’ top breweries, wineries and distilleries, as well as regional and national purveyors. Vendors slated to attend include Rockwell Beer Co., Brick River Cider Co., St. James Winery, Narwhal’s Crafted and many more.

The Stellar Hog is donating food for sampling, but guests will have the option to purchase full-size dishes. “[This year’s event] is really a way to show our thanks to The Stellar Hog for supporting Brew in the Lou over the past nine years,” said Katherine Auble, director of development and marketing for LESA. “It’s the best barbecue in the galaxy.”

There’s also competitions for chili, bratwurst and home-brewed beer, all of which attendees can sample and vote on their favorite.

The event organizers are making a coordinated effort to ensure the safety of all the attendees. The Medicine Shoppe will be offering complimentary Covid-19 and flu vaccines on site. “We encourage social distancing and we’ll have masks if you need one,” said Auble.

Hosted by the Lutheran Elementary School Association (LESA), the event will help support scholarships for over 30 member schools associated with LESA. “[The fundraiser is to] help us fund need-based tuition assistance for children who can’t afford a Lutheran education,” Auble said. “With our generous sponsors, we’re hoping to meet the previous goal [of $120,000].”

Brew in the Lou is a family- and pet-friendly event. Tickets are available online for $40 in advance and $50 on the day of the event. Advance sales end at midnight Thursday, Oct. 7. The tickets include unlimited tastings and a commemorative glass.

VIP tickets, which included a Brew in the Lou Passport, have sold out; however, the passport – a special pass offering food and drink deals at over 30 local restaurants valid until Oct. 9, 2022 – can be purchased the day of the event for an additional $10.
