International & Craft Beer Festival takes over the City Museum the next few weekends

Embark on a bar crawl through St. Louis' most eclectic museum

St. Louisans love craft beer and the City Museum, so a combination of the two is obviously even better. The International & Craft Beer Festival is a bar crawl through the four museum bars, each with a different theme and entertainment, taking over the museum for several weekends in September. Get tipsy while traipsing about the psychedelic vortex that is the City Museum? Yes, please!

“City Museum makes a great host for a craft beer festival given that craft brewers are artists themselves,” said Steve Mongiello, City Museum’s food and beverage director. “We will have four unique areas, each celebrating a different type of craft beer experience. Each will also feature a specialty menu item that pairs with the beer. Our ultimate goal is to provide a fun festival experience with unique beers and, in turn, support our local craft breweries.”

The Cabin Inn on the main level will feature the tastes of Germany and Bavaria with Marzen, Festbier and Hefeweizen beers, plus a supersized pretzel to absorb the beer.

At Beatnik Bob’s, look for Hoppy IPA, Sour Gose and Imperial stout beers, along with a Nashville hot chicken quesadilla. You’ll also find hipster crafts, and live music on the stage from 4 to 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and from noon to 3 p.m. on Sundays.

The Cowboy Bar in the Architecture Hall will have a full cowboy theme – yeehaw! Nosh on Frito chili pie while sipping on Mexican lager and fruit beers. Live music will grace this area during the same times as the Beatnik Bob's stage, and you’ll even be able to play some shuffleboard.

Finally, the rooftop bar will be themed like a backyard party featuring pale ales, Shandies and seltzers, along with DJs, and games such as beer pong, cornhole and giant Connect 4. The specialty food on the roof will be burnt end sausage served on a bun with barbecue sauce.

Tickets are available at the City Museum in the form of beer passports, which include a plastic souvenir glass, six beer samples and, most importantly, a pretzel necklace – because you will need snacks between meals.

The event takes place Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, Sept. 6 to 8, 13 to 15 and 20 to 22. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. on Fridays, 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays, as well as Labor Day Monday.
