In the lecture “You Don’t Need a Weatherman,” internationally recognized artist Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle will discuss his practice, including his recent installation, Weather Field No. 2, commissioned for Washington University’s Art on Campus program. The work, recently installed on the Danforth Campus near Olin Library, reflects the type of sophisticated sculptures that combine technology with natural phenomenon that Manglano-Ovalle is known for. The large-scale kinetic sculpture consists of 49 telescoping stainless steel poles alternating in height. Each pole supports a weather vane and anemometer which gauge the direction and speed of prevailing wind conditions as well as the unpredictable energetic forces produced within the sculpture’s own microclimate. Free and open to the public.
