This class will continue on from Islam/Middle East 101 and explore, in more detail, such topics as: issues of the politics of oil and water, Shia and Sunni issues, the mosque to the state in several nations, the pull/push of nationalism-fundamentalism-secularism in the area, imperialism over Arabs the last 100 years, key leaders over last 60 years, the American alliance with the theocratic Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict since 1917 and American foreign policy in the area today.
