Mark your calendar for the first Food Truck Friday, June 10!
May 27th 01:05pm, 2011
The food truck trend has hit St. Louis with a bang, with more trucks than ever now trolling the streets to serve up everything from pizza to tacos to cupcakes to hungry St. Louisans willing to track down their mobile meals on Facebook and Twitter. Now, for the very first time, you can put down your smart phones and detach from your computers: All your favorite food trucks will be in one place!
Introducing Food Truck Fridays, a free monthly Sauce event where local food trucks will gather for an evening of friends, fun and plenty of good food. The first Food Truck Friday will be held Friday, June 10, at Tower Grove Park, where your favorite mobile restaurants will be dishing out their fresh fare from 4 to 8 p.m. Haven’t tried the beef short rib tacos at Cha Cha Chow yet? It’s time to fix that. Want to satisfy that sweet tooth but can’t decide between Sarah’s Cakestop and The Sweet Divine? Now, you don’t have to. Not been able to track down the Pi or Holy Crêpe trucks yet? Here’s your chance.
That’s right, the finest food trucks on St. Louis’ streets, including Pi On the Spot, Cha Cha Chow, Fats Pierre, Mangia Mobile, The Sweet Divine, Sarah’s Cakestop, Holy Crêpe, Falafelwich Wagon and more will be there, excited to meet the friendly faces of their hungry customers. So whether you’re a regular at the windows of these creative culinarians or are simply wondering what this whole food truck trend is all about, grab a blanket and a chair and head on down to Tower Grove Park for a night of great food, good times and the friendliest darn truck drivers you’ll ever meet!

It would be nice to see a full street food set up like this, not just food trucks. There are plenty of other mobile food businesses in STL that aren’t truck based.

Kyle,
Holy Crepe is bus-based, rather than truck-based, and Fat’s Pierre is a cart.

would like updates on food truck days

Not to be “Debbie Downer” but will the trucks be in a tree populated area? Just dont want to be attacked by Cicada’s. Also will we have to park in areas where we have to walk through tree filled areas to get to the trucks? Just dont want those nasty things getting into our hair and freaking out my kids and frankly, me.

The cicada’s are not out in the city. Not yet anyway. Get over it! it is just an ugly bug that does not bite or sting!
June 8th, 2011 at 2:45 pm
Stax, not 100% sure on this, but I live in the south city not far from the park and have yet to hear or see any cicadas.
June 8th, 2011 at 8:33 pm
Just walked through that area of the park tonight and there are no cicadas…besides they don’t bite!
June 8th, 2011 at 10:21 pm
Stax, if you’re that worried about it, just stay home. They’re food trucks for christ sake.

Will sicadas be on the menu? Fried and dipped in chocolate?
June 9th, 2011 at 3:37 pm
No cicadas in the area! This article explains why: http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/article_697be258-8b5e-5c02-a4bc-1083b0968ec5.html

Truck-based, bus-based, whatevs. Them crepes fittin’ to be ass-based. As in I will eat them and, oh never mind.

Well the first ever Food Truck Friday is history…and Cicada’s weren’t the issue…but giant lines, long waits, and ill-prepared Food trucks were the order of the evening! A suggestion for next time: Each truck should focus their menu for speedier service. Pick 3 or 4 of your most popular entrees and only serve those! Lines of 100 people should be expected, but could be managed with smaller menus. Many people waited in line for 20-30 minutes only to find out the items they were waiting for were gone. This was before 6pm! The bright side was that the food that was still left was tasty and priced right. And it seemed most people took the botched evening in stride…
