Cary Grant provided the inspiration for our October cover. I just enjoy saying that.
I was reading a story called The 50 Most Stylish Men of the Past 50 Years in a back issue of GQ. That particular story is loaded with amazing portraits. Cary Grant is included (how could he not be?), and instead of printing a large portrait of him, the magazine used a contact sheet from a photo shoot with him. It was just him, on white, no frills – it was extremely candid. I thought, “That would be a great way to introduce our Ones to Watch.”
Instead of a contact sheet, I wanted to have a photo booth effect. Carmen Troesser, the photographer for the story, used her iPhone to shoot the cover images, adding to their playfulness. Some are shy, some are funny but they are all very different and you can see the personalities of our Ones to Watch shine through.
