Westphalia Vineyards
Hidden away in Osage County, Westphalia Vineyards, a local winery that began making vino back in 2005, is turning out Missouri’s only sulfite-free wine. This absence imparts a fresh, vigorous flavor – not unlike the difference between a Missouri tomato and a picked-green California one. Westphalia produces red, white and rosé varieties, including a Cabernet Franc that received 87 points from Wine Enthusiast magazine, which called it “spicy peppery and meaty and elegant.” The winery’s reds are aged exclusively in Missouri white oak barrels, a time-honored tradition that imparts notes of vanilla and sweet tobacco. Westphalia Vineyards wine is available at Trader Joe’s, Straub’s, Local Harvest Grocery, Schlafly Bottleworks, Randall’s, Lukas Liquors, The Wine Merchant and others. 106 E. Main St., Westphalia, 573.455.2950.
