090110_sweetartcookiesEach month, we scour the city for the best version of a single dish. Be it french fries or foie gras, Buffalo wings or BLTs, we report which three spots are dishing up St. Louis’ best – and exactly what we loved about them. But who says we have to pick just three? Our writers taste dozens of these delicious dishes before they pick the three best and, let’s face it, you can never have too much of a very good thing. Every month on Extra Sauce, our Short List writer will reveal whose version of the dish came oh-so-close to making the top three but fell just shy of taking home a medal. A Soft Spot for Sweet Art When it comes to chocolate chip cookies, we crave a little crunch – which you’ll discover after sampling our top three favorites on this month’s Short List. But for those seeking softer versions, Sweet Arts’ ooey-gooey goodness cannot – and should not – be discounted.

Each bite offers a thrilling mess of buttery dough and delectable chunks, hand-chiseled from Callebaut chocolate. To up the ante, the Shaw neighborhood bakeshop adds a generous smattering of traditional-sized chips, as well.

But beware, this isn’t a treat for neat freaks: After it’s devoured, crumbs on the plate and chocolate on the fingers will certainly remain, along with memories that will have softies returning for seconds as soon as possible.
