A Saucy congrats to Missouri’s own Baetje Farms for winning big at the International Cheese Competition, held this year in Montreal, Quebec. The Bloomsdale, Mo., cheesemaker won five awards for its French-style artisan goat cheeses, including first place ribbons for its plain and three-pepper-flavored, heart-shaped fresh cheese, Coeur de la Crème; and its hard-washed rind cheese, Fleur de la Vallée. Baetje Farms was also awarded a second place ribbon for its Sainte Genevieve and third place for its Coeur de la Crème, which is seasoned with garlic and chives.
The small cheesemaking operation, founded by Steve and Veronica Baetje in 2006, bested some 257 other competitors, including industry “big cheeses” such as Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery, Cypress Grove Chevre, Kraft Foods, Rogue Creamery and Cabot Creamery.
