Cooking classes, wine seminars, restaurant kitchen tours … there are more up-close-and-personal ways than ever for eaters and drinkers to get smarter about what they put in their mouths. Now, Eclipse Restaurant at The Moonrise Hotel is the latest establishment where folks can pull up a chair and get educated.
Bad Apple Cocktails is a weekly drinking tutorial that will be led by the restaurant’s craft cocktail specialist Lucas Ramsey. The event, which will occur on Wednesday evenings, is intended as a low-key way to enjoy a dose of libations theory along with a cocktail or two. “It’s a theme-based cocktail night featuring traditional and creative new cocktails, one old, two new,” explained Ramsey. “The concept can be anything from variations on a specific drink, to a spirit that is in each of the drinks, a specific fruit, or even a vegetable.”
The Bad Apple Cocktails dress rehearsal was last week, with Ramsey “lecturing” imbibers at the bar on the night’s theme: Sweet Vermouth versus Dark Spirits. A Manhattan was offered as the classic cocktail; Buck Rogers and Bad Apple as the exploratory drinks. The grand debut of Bad Apple Cocktails will be Wednesday, Feb. 16 (the tutorial was originally slated for tomorrow, Feb. 2, but has been rescheduled due to the inclement weather). The theme is “Galliano,” but the three drinks for the evening remain a surprise. The event begins at 8 p.m. No reservations are necessary. Cocktails are $8.
