A familiar ice cream shop located in Franklin County has changed names and is now under new ownership. In December, Main Street Creamery located at 110 W. Main Street in downtown Washington, closed in order for its new ownership to make some interior changes and reopen under a new name.
On Friday, Jan. 17, the ice cream shop will reopen for business as Silver Spoon Ice Cream & Sweets. The business is owned by David Staral, and there are currently three other Silver Spoon Ice Cream shops located throughout the St. Louis area. The shops are located at 103 Chesterfield Towne Centre, in Chesterfield, 98 Legends Parkway, Suite 104, in Eureka and 17225 New College Avenue, in Wildwood. The growing local ice cream brand is also making plans to open a Jefferson County location, at 22 Gravois Station Road, in House Springs, which is slated to open this spring.
Although it’s opening later this month, the Washington location has been in the works for a while, since the announcement about Silver Spoon Ice Cream opening a Washington storefront was made by the ice cream shop’s former owner, Nick Kiser, last fall in a Facebook post.
When it reopens, Staral said repeat guests of the former brand can expect to see a few changes at first, like updated colors and branding that will reflect the new ownership such as the brand’s use of teal and pink, and decor that’s reminiscent of a vintage ice cream parlor. There will be further cosmetic changes that will take place at the Washington store, such as changing the seating, but that won’t happen until later in the spring or summer.
When it comes to the sweet offerings, Silver Spoon Ice Cream will bring its world award-winning ice cream in 24 flavors to its Washington location. The traditional scoop ice cream will come in 12 staple flavors that guests can expect to find each time they visit, as well as 12 flavors that rotate depending on the season. And, there will be a selection of dairy-free and vegan flavors as well to accommodate guests with allergies or dietary preferences.
And, there’s several ways to enjoy the ice cream flavors, in a cup, in a freshly made waffle cone, or in a shakes. The establishment also offers classic treats like banana splits and hot fudge sundaes, along with a signature dish that Staral created called ice cream nachos.
“The way I created it years ago is a layer of waffle cone pieces on the bottom, three scoops of ice cream, Ghirardelli chocolate and caramel, brownie bites, cookie dough, whipped cream and sprinkles,” he said of the dessert.
If you’re more of an ice cream purist, but just can’t decide on what flavor to try, the shop has a solution for that problem, since it offers ice cream flights. The selection of six different flavors are served in small scoops, think something a bit smaller than a kiddie-sized scoop, which are the perfect size for sampling different flavors of ice cream. Additionally, the establishment sells ice cream pies, served in regular and chocolate graham cracker crusts, as well as ice cream cakes, and both are custom made to order in the shops.
