I love a good diner. The old-school decor, the infinite breakfast combinations, the ability to get a plate of greasy eggs, bacon and hash browns almost any time of day… But sometimes, I’m just not in the mood for brinner (breakfast for dinner), and thankfully, City Diner at 3139 S. Grand Blvd., serves up a light-yet-filling roasted vegetable sandwich.
A tumble of roasted zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, red and green peppers and red onions sits on top of a warm pita smeared with a bright green pesto-mayo sauce (OK, healthy-ish). The finish to this colorful veg-lover’s mélange: a generous handful of salty feta cheese crumbles. I reward my responsible decision with a side of crunchy onion rings. It’s still a diner after all.
