If the cooler mornings have you reaching for a sweater and a warm cup of coffee, fall has officially arrived. St. Louis coffee shops are getting in on the season with new drinks featuring pumpkin, maple, apple, chai and flavors that go well beyond the usual PSL.
Shaw’s Coffee
At Shaw’s, fall comes with a cast of woodland characters. The Oh Deer! is a pumpkin pie latte topped with whipped cream and spice, while the Maple Moose pairs brown sugar and maple with maple cold foam when served iced. Other playful options include the Nutty Squirrel, a butter pecan and hazelnut latte with candied pecans, and the Bluebird Bramble, an iced drink combining white chocolate, blueberry and maple. The menu also ventures beyond coffee with the Bunny Chai, Maple Turtle, Fizzy Worm, Foxy Chai and Owl Matcha, and iced drinks can be finished with cold foams including pumpkin, apple butter and maple. Shaw’s has been serving coffee at its Shaw Avenue location for decades, with a menu that also includes housemade baked goods and breakfast items.

The Living Room
Fig gets a spot on the fall menu at The Living Room, joining more familiar autumn flavors. The Fig Latte is served alongside a Pumpkin Latte with Cold Foam and Chaider, made with equal parts chai and apple cider. The neighborhood cafe and roastery also has its own beans, rotating menu and coffee classes, making it a spot to linger beyond the usual morning coffee run.

Upshot
Upshot’s fall lineup takes a less traditional route with drinks such as the brown sugar sage cappuccino, baked pumpkin latte, Asian pear chai and cherry coffee soda. The fruit-forward options give the menu something beyond the usual pumpkin-and-spice combination, while seasonal pastries include pumpkin danishes and s’mores cookies.

Goshen Coffee
Goshen’s Soulard roastery and cafe is putting a seasonal spin on both coffee and matcha. Sweater Weather combines espresso, fall spice syrup and vegan chai cold foam, while the Kettle Corn Latte uses sweetened roasted corn puree and a salted brown butter soft top. There’s also a spiced apple aerocano with cinnamon, apple cider and caramel, plus an ube honey matcha topped with ube cold foam. For home brewers, Goshen has introduced a new coffee blend with notes of baked apple, persimmon and black cherry, alongside new bakery options including an apple cinnamon scone, espresso brownie, ham and cheese croissant and sunbutter pumpkin muffin.

Piper’s Coffee
Rather than building its fall menu around pumpkin alone, Piper’s Coffee is letting housemade syrups do the work. The Demeter features pumpkin spice syrup, The Ariadne combines cardamom and orange blossom honey, and The Hestia brings together fresh ginger syrup and housemade caramel. For a drink without coffee, Persephone mixes blood orange and pomegranate syrup with lemon and club soda.

Kaldi’s Coffee
Kaldi’s is leaning into fall with four seasonal drinks, including its returning baked maple pumpkin latte, which combines real baked pumpkin, maple and cinnamon. New additions include the blackberry sage shaken espresso, toasted coconut matcha and chai protein latte, while the bakery case gets its own update with a maple walnut scone, sweet potato muffin, apple spice muffin and kitchen sink cookie. Kaldi’s says the baked maple pumpkin latte has been a fall staple for more than a decade, with pumpkin roasted in-house before it’s combined with maple and spices.
