The Scoop: Cha Cha Chow to open brick-and-mortar shop on The Hill

091615_chacha   Fans of roving eatery Cha Cha Chow can soon get their taco fix at a permanent location. Owner Kandace Davis announced today, Sept. 16, that a brick-and-mortar location is set to open at 4916 Shaw Ave., in mid-November. Davis will continue to operate the truck, but its former general manager Sam Burke has returned to take ownership of Cha Cha Chow on Shaw. The two will share the kitchen space, and the permanent eatery will offer the same recipes that put the food truck on the map. While Davis had entertained the idea of brick-and-mortar, she hadn’t pursued it in earnest until she was approached by Matt Stelzer of Amsterdam Tavern. Stelzer is set to open a bar and club, The Gaslight Lounge, currently under construction at that location. He and the building’s developers contacted Davis about opening a small shop next-door to The Gaslight. “It’s been discussed for a long time, but we weren’t actively looking for a place, so this came out of the blue and made it manageable and easy for us,” Davis said. Cha Cha Chow on Shaw will have a few seats inside, but will largely serve as a carryout eatery when it opens in November. Burke said when summer 2016 rolls around, Cha Cha and The Gaslight will share a Biergarten, where customers can kick back with a beer and a taco.
