Jovick Brothers Burgers now open in Princeton Heights

Jovick Brothers Burgers opened on Aug. 22 at 4993 Loughborough Ave. in Princeton Heights. The South City burger joint is the second restaurant from Casey Jovick, who also owns Jovick Brothers Deli at Westport Plaza in Maryland Heights in addition to producing a line of Jovick Brothers spice rubs.

The restaurant takes over the approximately 600 square-foot space at 4993 Loughborough Ave. from CC’s Vegan Spot (named among our Readers’ Choice Favorite Soul Food restaurants in 2022), which closed in June. Jovick said the opening had been delayed by a month while necessary renovations were carried out on the space, but Jovick Brothers Burgers is now ready to serve customers from its walk-up counter, with six tables indoors and another four on the patio.

Jovick said he had considered opening a second outpost of his deli concept, but decided a more dinner-friendly format was a better fit for the neighborhood. “A lot of people live in South City, but not a lot of people work in South City,” he said. “You're not going to a deli at 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. to get a deli sandwich and a bag of chips – you're looking for something a little bit more.” Jovick Brothers Burgers is only open for dinner, which means that Jovick can close the deli at 3 p.m. then head over to Princeton Heights to begin getting those smash burgers ready for the evening crowd.

The menu offers four signature burgers, including the Carolina Cowboy, two 4-ounce chuck patties with cheese, Carolina Gold BBQ sauce and onion rings, and the Destroyer, a triple cheeseburger topped with a triple serving of bacon, fried cheese curds, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and chipotle mayo. You can also build your own burger, choosing one or two patties, American, Swiss or pepper jack cheese and your preferred burger dressings and condiments. Sides are ordered separately and include french fries, onion rings, tater tots, fried cheese curds and loaded tots.

The menu also includes a few options other than burgers, including three chicken sandwiches, two vegan sandwiches, and a selection of “glizzies” (that’s hot dogs, if you’re not up on your food slang). Beverage offerings are limited to bottled sodas and water – Jovick said he’ll leave it to the neighboring bar to provide beer and other alcoholic drinks, if customers want to stop in there after a burger.

“I've always wanted to do a burger joint,” Jovick said. “I like doing concepts with small, concise menus – that way you can just do a few things well, and not a 150-item menu where everything's just OK.” And the area is ripe for a good burger place. “A lot of the Steak and Shakes have closed in the past few years, and in South City, besides Stacked, it's hard to get a good smashburger,” Jovick said.

Jovick Brothers Burgers is open from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Takeout orders can be placed in advance by calling the restaurant at 314.390.2899.
