Beyond Sweet Kitchen + Bar is opening in the Delmar Maker District this fall

Beyond Sweet Kitchen + Bar has recently announced plans to open a new restaurant located in the Delmar Maker District at 5143 Delmar Blvd. Founded by Dallas Holland, a St. Louis entrepreneur, Beyond Sweet Kitchen + Bar will feature food, drinks and dessert in a sophisticated and unique setting.

Holland opened Beyond Sweet just east of the Delmar Loop in 2017 to incredible fanfare and a customer base that grew quickly, due to the over-the-top ice cream shakes served in glasses embellished with delectable bits like crushed cookies and whipped cream or nuts, chocolate and caramel sauce, just to name a few. The business outgrew that original space in a matter of one month and Holland had to move to a bigger location also on Delmar Boulevard, and that growth has continued over the past six years.

“When I first opened Beyond Sweet, its popularity surprised me,” Holland recalls.

Now, Holland sees this move as another step to evolve the business further while embodying the notion of “beyond” that is an essential element of her brand, through the new location, atmosphere and menu.

The signature shakes will still be available at Beyond Sweet Kitchen + Bar, but since the establishment will have its liquor license, guests will soon be able to add their favorite spirit to the mix. In addition to ice cream, there will be a kitchen and full bar, with menu items like fried or grilled snapper served with dirty rice and asparagus, grilled cheese smash burger, cauliflower bites, vegan fried rice and jerk chicken wings.

The bar will offer flights like sweet and spicy margarita or martini flights, along with daily drink specials, beer and wine, and wine tastings. There will also be a house special drink called Beyond Sweet, made with tequila and decorated with assorted candies, and coming in at 60 ounces, it’s made for sharing.

The new two-story space will seat 38 on the main floor, and there’s an elevator that will take guests upstairs to the mezzanine area, which will seat 48. When it comes to the ambiance of the space, expect lots of cream-colored decor and gold accents, a 10-foot gold chandelier, a curly willow tree, plus a 25-foot projector on the ground floor that will impart a natural element by generating scenes like rainfall.

“It is going to be amazing,” Holland said of the space.

Upstairs, the walls will be adorned with canvas photos of St. Louis-area celebrities including Andy Cohen, Nelly, Maya Angelou, Cedric the Entertainer, Chuck Berry and more. Holland said the goal is for those celebrities who are still living to come in to dine and autograph their photos.

While the decor will have an overall elegant aesthetic, Holland envisions Beyond Sweet Kitchen + Bar as a spot where families can bring their kids in for lunch and ice cream, groups can gather for brunch and couples can enjoy an evening out. Additionally, the establishment will host live musicians and DJs in a variety of genres, with a live band expected to play each Sunday.

“The goal is to bring a vibe,” Holland said. “We’re here to do something big in the community.”

Right now, the target grand opening for Beyond Sweet Kitchen + Bar is late October or early November. The service hours will be Thursday through Sunday, with service from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and Sunday open for brunch hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations will be required for the dining room at least for the first few months. However, the bar, which seats around 10, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
