The Golden State at Retreat Gastropub channels traditional Indian flavors into a cocktail. Notes of coconut, turmeric, ginger and lemon mingle with J. Rieger’s gin – it’s bold but balanced. But the pièce de résistance is the use of curry leaf to garnish the drink. This aromatic herb is commonly used in South Indian cooking and has a funky, peppery, mustardy complexity that can stand up to the drink’s robust ingredients.
