Since their arrival on the St. Louis craft beer scene, the brewers at Perennial Artisan Ales have become known for their unique takes on Belgian styles. Their latest beer, Hereafter, continues down this path.

A collaboration with their friends at Penrose Brewing in Geneva, Ill., Hereafter is a unique twist on the Belgian strong golden ale. Pale blonde in color, Hereafter is fermented with Lactobacillus, Missouri pears and white sage. The beer’s brightness and fruity character are balanced by the earthy sage and yeast’s spicy phenolics. A warming alcohol character from the beer’s 9.2 percent ABV is reminiscent of this style’s Belgian heritage, and it’s balanced combination of pears and sage showcase its collaborative American twist on this beautiful style.

Hereafter will be available on draft and in bottles around the St. Louis area in the coming weeks. If you can’t wait until then, it will be available at Perennial as one of the many beers on tap for its second anniversary party Saturday, Oct. 19 from noon to 11 p.m. Admission is free, and a variety of food trucks including Completely Sauced and Hot Aztec will serve up food. The party will feature 26 Perennial brews for sale with limited-release beers tapped throughout the day.

Beginning at noon, many beers will be released from Perennial’s cellar. The release schedule will be announced that day. Among the limited-release beers are: BA 17 (barrel-aged mint chocolate stout), La Boheme (Flanders-style red ale with Michigan tart cherries), Fantastic Voyage (imperial milk stout with coconut), 2012 Abraxas (imperial stout with cacao nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans), Coffee Abraxas, BA Sump (barrel-aged stout with Sump coffee), and Side Project’s Saison du Fermier.
