Food fanatics and sports fans have something in common: we both enjoy having a drink in hand. A food-lover may not need an excuse to order a craft cocktail, but if a sports fan needs a reason, come spring, baseball season and horse racing are grounds enough. At Yia Yia’s in Chesterfield, bar manager Jay Olson rolled out a new cocktail menu this week and, among the seven new drinks, the two that caught our eye give a nod to these spring pastimes.
Field of Dreams is a floral cocktail made using two products by new-to-the-St. Louis market Koval Distillery – Koval American Oat Whiskey and Koval Chrysanthemum Honey Liqueur – plus St. Germain Elderflower. Olson’s refreshing Spanish Julep is a cross between a mint julep and white sangria. A perfect primer for Kentucky Derby devotees, the drink is made using muddled peaches and mint, crisp LaCana Albariño white wine, peach brandy and club soda.
Bummed the red birds are out of town this weekend? Fret not. Saddle up to the bar at Yia Yia’s where you can catch the game and order up one of these seasonal concoctions. Go Cards!
