Up to 22 patrons can sit in the bar area and sip from a selection of nine mostly classic cocktails, 13 bottled brews or one of 10 wines by the glass. The breakfast crowd can enjoy a selection of coffee drinks made with Mississippi Mud beans.
Co-owner Diane Carr partnered with Kuhlmann Leavitt to design Avenue with sleek black leather, muted gray tones, reclaimed barnwood walls and unexpected colorblocking on the ceiling.
The Apple Room, which seats up to 40, can be closed off with a rolling barn door and rented for private functions. It includes a private bar and patio, as well as a cheery fireplace.
Sauteed wild mushrooms steal the show on this starter, poured atop two toasted baguette slices and crowned with a generous piece of ultra-creamy burrata.
Another starter, fluffy pillows of house-made gnocchi, are served in a rich, smooth lemon-butter sauce and tossed with tomatoes, zucchini batons and garlic.
The crisp leaves of little gem lettuce on this salad hold bright slices of roasted red and gold beets and a wedge of oozing sauteed goat cheese.
Avenue features dishes new to Carr’s repertoire, including a kale salad featuring a textural medley of toothsome faro, crisp snap peas, roasted apples and crunchy walnuts tossed in lemon and olive oil.
Customer favorites are offset on the Avenue menu as Pomme Classics, including the popular eggplant involtini dish. Mozzarella, peppers and spinach are rolled inside slices of eggplant and sit in a shallow pool of fresh red tomato sauce.
While Pomme’s classic dessert, Apples for Olivia, will never change, don’t miss other offerings like this special, a velvety apple crisp loaded with brown sugar and butter and topped with house-made ice cream.
