Before Mother Nature took the area by storm this past Friday, the Market Pub House did likewise with a well-attended soft opening that evening.
John Racanelli’s latest venture occupies 6655 Delmar Blvd., formerly the site of his Racanelli’s Cucina. As noted here earlier, almost all of its appetizers, soups and salads, wraps, wings, and burgers and other sandwiches cost just $5 to $7. (One item, the Animal Pub House Burger, runs $9.) The Loop restaurant also offers varied sides and desserts, in addition to a brief children’s menu, and features a full bar.
At the soft opening, we ourselves savored some crisp veggie spring rolls accompanied by a wasabi-based relish, as well as sliderized versions of a grilled portabella burger and an exquisite pulled-pork sandwich with honeyed barbecue sauce. Moreover, the next day, we revisited the restaurant to lunch on the lean, house-smoked pastrami on rye, which consulting chef Craig Basler had praised in particular – and rightly so.
Hours at the Market Pub House run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday; and 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. Moreover, Racanelli (who was taping a “now open” banner to the door Saturday as we left) plans to offer Sunday brunch starting next month.
