Editor’s note: On Oct. 10, the 1929 Pizza & Wine social media accounts announced that the opening date for the new location, which will be at 921 Arbor Vitae, Suite 101, in Edwardsville, will be Oct. 17.

Amy and Matt Herren of 1929 Pizza & Wine have announced plans to open a new patisserie called Patisserie 29 in Edwardsville in the fall of 2024. The Herrens are still working on securing a location for the project, but they plan to relocate their 1929 Pizza & Wine concept from its current location in Wood River to Edwardsville as part of the move.

Amy Herren said that the new location will operate as a “patisserie in the a.m.” then serve as the new outpost for 1929 Pizza & Wine (Sauce’s No. 4 Best New Restaurant of 2023) in the evening. Amy Herren said that Patisserie 29 will offer a “higher end” and “more refined” take on pastries, and the patisserie will also feature an espresso-based coffee program (Matt Herren was also a co-founder of Goshen Coffee Roasters).

The Herrens have been a fixture on the Edwardsville food scene on and off for the past two decades. In addition to co-founding Goshen, Matt Herren also founded 222 Artisan Bakery, before eventually selling both businesses. Meanwhile, Amy operated Fond in Edwardsville from 2008 to 2011. A statement from the Herrens said that following the closure of 222 Artisan Bakery in February this year, “there has been a groundswell of support from the community urging their return.”

“While we are still finalizing the details, we are thrilled to share that we are in the process of securing a lease and aim to open our new patisserie before fall,” said Amy Herren in the statement. Herren also said that 1929 Pizza & Wine will continue operations in Wood River until they are ready to move into the new location.
