As you may have noticed from the infrequency of my posts, I’m not a natural blogger. Nonetheless, as I sat in my living room over the holidays with a friend at 2:30 a.m., noshing The Wine Merchant‘s truffle salami like a teen gobbling a bag of Fritos, it occurred to me that I should mention this bit of culinary nirvana. The rich and silky slices (about the size of a quarter) are laced with pungent black truffle that lingers on the palate for as long as you want it to. Or in my case, the time it takes to get another slice (say, 1.14 seconds). Now, at $40 a pound, it’s a touch pricey, but single salamis run about $10 or $11. Also, the price will be the least of my concerns when it runs out. Then I’ll have to look my 2-year-old in the eye and tell him Daddy just scarfed the last of what’s become his favorite snack.
