When we first began collaborating with Greg Kiger, director of photography at Once Films, on a short documentary about the thriving and dedicated culinary community in St. Louis, we knew the project had the potential to be very special. We were thrilled to learn that others in the community have deemed the final product worthy of recognition.
Once Films recently won a 2011 AIGA award in the professional promotion category for the film Kiger created for Sauce, Independent Risk Takers and Page Makers, Part 1. The award was presented by the St. Louis Chapter of the AIGA – The Professional Association for Design, formerly known as the American Institute for Graphic Arts. Hundreds of entries were submitted for this year’s competition, which honors excellence in design, branding and promotion. Congratulations also to our friends at TOKY Branding + Design, whose project for the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts received the Best in Show award.
The Sauce short film was produced by Once Films in February to highlight independent culinary innovators and the 10-year history of Sauce Magazine. The film included interviews with Dan Kopman, co-founder of The Saint Louis Brewery; Kevin Nashan, chef-owner of Sidney Street Cafe; and Gerard Craft, chef-owner of the Niche family of restaurants. It also included scenes from some of St. Louis’ favorite independent restaurants and bars, including Bridge Tap House and Wine Bar, Acero, Truffles and Eleven Eleven Mississippi, among others.

Congratulations to all the 2011 AIGA design award winners and thank you to all who collaborated on the production of the film, including the passionate and talented crew at Once Films, production contributor Allyson Mace, content and sequencing contributor Heather Voyles and the Sauce team.
