Warmer weather heralds the return of weekend visits to area wineries and now there’s another stop to add to your getaway plans. Noboleis Vineyards is the newest winery to open in Augusta and for those who didn’t visit the tasting room when it opened last October, now is the perfect time to plan a visit to the 74-acre estate and taste the 10 wines in the vineyard’s portfolio.
The family-owned vineyard was planted in 2005 and holds four varietals – Norton, Chambourcin, Traminette and Vignoles. In addition, the winery purchases a locally-grown Vidal Blanc, explained Noboleis manager Angie Geis. The 2009 vintage marked the winery’s first release, and the 10 wines the vineyard now offers – reds, whites and one blush – range in price from $13 to $22 per bottle. “We have five pretty dry wines, which surprises some people,” commented Geis.
Wine tastings are free, and the winery also offers a limited lunch menu featuring sandwiches, pizza, soups and salads. The tasting room is open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
