The Gramophone has long served drinks to thirsty concert-goers, but there haven’t been many food options for fans with late-night hunger pangs. That’s changing now that the club, located at 4243 Manchester Ave., in The Grove, is offering made-to-order sandwiches before, during and after all shows.
The menu is a lineup of seven sandwiches. Among them is the Danimal, created by and named for The Gramophone’s sound engineer, Dan. It’s “an everything [sandwich] – every meat, multiple cheeses, every vegetable. It’s a giant sandwich,” described Roo Yawitz, The Gramophone owner. (We could envision that ham, turkey, roast beef, salami, bacon, white cheddar, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onions, a house-made avocado spread and black-pepper mayo tasting pretty good.) Another offering is The Jive, which dances with turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, sprouts, an avocado spread and mayo served on a baguette. You’ll also find a peanut butter, jelly, bacon, banana and honey number called The Elvis Crust, as well as a veg sandwich crammed with lettuce, tomato, tri-colored peppers, cucumbers, onion, avocado spread, sprouts, feta cheese, chive-flavored cream cheese and Italian dressing.
All sandwiches, made on bread by local bakery Fazio’s, are available hot or cold and come with a bag of chips. Beginning in December, The Gramophone will add a sandwich of the month. The venue also will continue to serve Dogtown Pizza.
