Patty-Cakes, a custom-design cake shop in Highland, Ill., has expanded. Owner Pat Jacoby, who opened a storefront in Highland in 1981 and moved it a year later to its current location at 1018 Laurel St., has purchased the building next door and is using some of the additional 1,200 square footage for a new cupcake bar.
Patty-Cakes now sells 14 flavors of cupcakes, along with jumbo gourmet cupcakes with various fillings and toppings. “The cupcakes are going crazy; we’re selling 100 to 150 cupcakes a day,” Jacoby told The Scoop. A remodel of the original Patty-Cakes shop and the new storefront now enables sweets-lovers to snack on their cupcakes while peering through new glass viewing windows to watch the Patty-Cakes pros show off the talents that earned them national recognition as winners on TLC’s Ultimate Cake-Off in 2009 and 2010.
