Jill Segal, owner of Jilly’s Cupcake Bar and Café, is expanding her restaurant located at 8509 Delmar Blvd., near I-170. If remodeling the space next door that was formerly Winston’s Fabrics goes according to plan, the seating capacity at Jilly’s will double by mid-December.
Remodeling plans include creating a room for small private events such as birthday parties for cupcake-loving, icing-licking kids or business meetings, Segal told Sauce. The front space, meanwhile, will be changed to provide comfortable lounge seating and to accommodate those who “want a quick cupcake to go.”
Segal will need all that extra room once folks get wind of Jilly’s oh-so affordable Sunday brunch buffet, which rolls out Dec. 5. The menu was designed by Jilly’s chef Dana Holland, whom folks may remember as the owner-chef of the now defunct Caribbean barbecue stop, Babalu’s Snack Shack in Kirkwood. Holland consulted for Segal when her eatery opened in July 2007, and he stepped back into the kitchen at Jilly’s just over a year ago.
So what can you get for a $14.99 Sunday brunch buffet? Holland cited a long list of tempting items that include: house-made cheddar biscuits with Creole gravy; house-made breakfast sausage patties; a breakfast burrito bar where you can stuff your tortilla with eggs, house-made chorizo, stove-top black beans, pickled onions, cheese and salsa; egg-stravaganzas like a strata or Italian creamed spinach and artichoke eggs Benedict; and hearty dishes such as jambalaya, chicken stroganoff, Cuban roast pork or brisket hash. Vegetarians will find lots of options too – whether at the burrito bar, among the egg choices, or with one of Jilly’s several cold salads like the chilled tortellini salad. And for kids, Jilly’s will offer a seven-cheese mac-and-cheese, bananas Foster French toast and, for dessert, a DIY cupcake station where the kiddos can pile on the icing and sprinkles. Even better: Kids ages 7 to 10 eat brunch for just $7.99; those under age 6 eat for free.
Segal is also working on securing a liquor license, she said. So while the buffet will include a standard beverage like coffee, tea or juice, it’s only a matter of time before you can enjoy all that food with a Bloody Mary or mimosa.
