071911_michaeldelpietroMichael Del Pietro, the owner of Sugo’s Spaghetteria and adjacent wine bar Via Vino in Frontenac, as well as Babbo’s Spaghetteria in Chesterfield and Columbia, is revealing opening dates for his two new restaurants here in town along with his plans for westward expansion – across the state, that is.

The restaurateur marked September 15 as the day when doors will open at his pizza-centric Pazzo, located at 140 S. Kirkwood Road in the space formerly occupied by La Salsa. Also, November 20 is now the target opening for Tavolo V, his Italian eatery under construction in The Loop. Initially the restaurant was to be named Trattoria Spezie, but Del Pietro opted to change it because “Tavolo Five should be easier to remember and pronounce,” explained Del Pietro, who noted his enthusiasm for this soon-to-open restaurant. “I think that the menu with the big push on vegetarian [dishes] will be very exciting,” he said. Del Pietro will also be opening a total of five restaurants in Kansas City in the next three years, the first one being a Sugo’s in Overland Park, Kan., as reported by St. Louis Magazine’s George Mahe. Don’t expect a chain of Sugo’s in KC, however. Instead, each of Del Pietro’s Kansas City restaurants will have a different name, menu and other marks of distinction.
