Hey, amigos and amigas: There’s a new tapas joint in town, right along the main drag in Kirkwood.
Pat and Ellen Carr opened their One 19 North Tapas Wine Bar (located at 119 North Kirkwood Road, naturally) late last month, in the former D’Vine Wine space. “I just fell in love with the tapas experience about seven years ago, and Kirkwood has never had a tapas restaurant,” notes Pat, a former partner in the Mike Duffy’s chain of area pubs.
He describes One 19 North’s take on tapas as “Spanish flair crossed with an American bistro.” The 28 dishes include such highlights as fried manchego cheese with sofrito dipping sauce, watermelon gazpacho, bloody mary salmon ceviche, and sautéed chicken-liver bruschetta with balsamic figs. Christopher Delgado, formerly of Jimmy’s on the Park and the St. Louis Club, is the kitchen boss.
The wine list, currently at about 30 vintages, will be tweaked according to customer feedback in the coming months. Also look for daily specials on sangria by-the-glass.
One 19 North serves dinner every day, and lunch every day except Sunday.
The coveted tables in the new space are the two front-window four-tops, Pat said, which seem to thrust out above Kirkwood Road for a great view of the passing parade of locals.
